Pastoral Counseling Through Your Church

wealthy-living-counseling

GENERAL PASTORAL COUNSELING

The functions ofcounseling and teaching (not only preaching), should be apart of your local church. From my experience I believe that Christian counseling for some is more effective when done in person. If this is true for you, it's best to speak with your local pastor or church leadership. If you are not involved in achurch, look for a Bible based church in your area and speak with the pastor before you receive counsel to make sure he or she understands your problem(s).

If you're paying tithes and offerings you shouldn't have to pay a fee for this service.  You may however, not always get your pastor, but an assistance pastor or a member of the church who is functioning in the ministry of helps. Always make sure that you feel comfortable with the person you are assigned.  If you don't trust them, be willing to wait for your pastor who might be somewhat busy to make appointments for any time sooner than thirty days in advance.

Pastoral counseling may not be for a full hour and is normally a half hour. So make the most of your time in counsel by making a list beforehand of all your questions or problems.

If you need a mentoring program where you receive daily (if needed) attention to help you attain your goal, (ex.: losing weight, stop smoking, adeeper relationship with God, etc.) check with your church leadership to see if they assign members to mentor other members of the congregation or they have special groups organized for this function.

However, in order for mentoring to work, you will need a leader who will not only guide you toward the right path for transformation, but will also teach you God’s Word to help develop you spiritually, to get you closer to God in the process, and to help you have a greater understanding of the Bible for answered prayer. Ultimately this should result in a well-rounded structure that will effect a Christian's total lifestyle.

Don't look for a friendship with your counselor. Instead, you need someone that will work with you and lead you to success. Too much unnecessary conversation will waste much of your counsel time and it will be a hindrance if you’re serious about change.  So be hard on yourself and choose a mentor, counselor or life coach that is going to help you find resolution rather than a new friend.

Pray that God will work through the person you choose. NEVER CENTER ON THAT PERSON, KEEP YOUR LIFE CENTERED ONCHRIST!
